FIC: Honest Mistake

Title: Honest Mistake
Words: 440
Fandom: CSI
A/N: For snapes_gurl, who requested: Grissom and Greg - Greg lets a big secret of his slip in front of the whole CSI crew.. Hope you enjoy. ^^

Greg was sitting in Grissom's office, head in his hands, and had been since his shift ended almost two hours ago. He felt strongly reminded of a principal's office. Elementary school, middle school, high school, they all looked different but they felt the same. Too warm no matter what the actual temperature was, that prickling on your neck like you were being watched, the unexplained urge to clear your throat a million times...and of course, the rehashing of the stupid shit you did to land yourself there in the first place.

At least this time he'd gone voluntarily; he wasn't about to be called in or sent for. Especially for something so stupid...

He couldn't believe he'd said that. It tastes way better than that. Like he was a friggen authority on it or something. Which, they probably all already thought he was anyway, but why let them know they were right?

Sara had mentioned it at least twice in the hour before the end of his shift. Sometimes he just couldn't stand her. She had probably said stupider than him before anyway, let loose bigger secrets...she just wasn't stupid enough to announce it to the entire fricken' crew, he sighed....

"Greg?"

Grissom had walked in while he was wallowing in self pity, and was looking at him, so confused and concerned that it made Greg want to cry even more. He jumped up, desperate to explain himself.

"I'm sorry I'm an idiot. I, I know you wanted to keep things seperate, keep them from getting complicated, but I wasn't even thinking, I just didn't stop to-"

"Greg." The way Grissom said his name made it sound more like a demand than anything else, and he knew what it meant. He sat down again, trying to keep his mouth shut. It didn't last.

"I'm an idiot." He blurted out again.

"Greg." Grissom repeated. "Calm down. Now then. What's done is done. We can't change the past, and I wouldn't want you to even if you could."

"Really? Even though I basically just-"

Grissom nodded, and Greg felt a rush of blood to his head as Grissom rubbed the back of his neck lightly, the most affection he ever showed in public.

"Besides, I did find it rather amusing, the way your ears turned purple almost immediately afterwards."

Greg smirked. "I thought the highlight was Sara choking on her coffee. She seemed kinda perturbed at the implications."

"You think she suspects?"

"If she doesn't, even after I vividly described the way you make breakfast, you should fire her."

Grissom nodded. "Duly noted. Come on. Shift's over. Let's go home."
